OK, so I'am going to Infineon  raceway to watch Classic Historic Car Races, i.e. trans Am camero, mustang, Amc, corvette, cobra, etc, and because I usually don't get out of eye site I figure I'll ck the alarm system, i've never turned it on, turn it on, open the door, and it starts to honk, two good honks and the third is a squeek, then two good honks and a squeek and so on, the sound doesn't worry me, but when I close the hood or doors the alarm stops,  thought  that once alarm was tripped that it would keep honken till you turned it off with the key, a thief could quickley open and close the door and no one would hear the alarm, wus up, as far as the sound I could replace the horn with an electric locomotive whistle or police siren, that will get someone's attention!

The alarm should continue to sound until either you turn it off, or the battery runs down...
You may have a relay problem that is turning it off when the door/hood closes. The relay is supposed to stay "latched" once the door/hood switch closes, which provides the ground for the system.

Not 100% sure on the '72, but I do believe it is in the pass side rear compartment, along with the alarm system flasher. The relays can be opened up, but I don't know if there is anything you can do to "repair" them if it's bad, other than clean it with some contact/electrical cleaner, and clean the terminals on the bottom with fine sandpaper.

Thanks Joel, its in the jack  compartment, the flasher might be the problem with the "honk, honk, squeek", and the relay might have to be replaced of cleaned,Thumbs Up

I have that relay in my 1981 in the passenger compartment also.  Also have a printed circuit board.  Is that part of the speedo???  I just returned from a car show in Escanaba Michigan.  I saw a white vette there with C3 sticker on it.  Whose is it??
