Adding Side Pipes on a Rear Exhaust Car

I really want to add side pipes to my 1969 427/435 car.  But how do I cover up the two exhaust slots at the rear of the car where the exhausts now are?

You might want to buy a filler panel and have it painted to match. Keep the original rear exit filler panel in case you want to switch it back. 

I added side pipes to my 72 and never changed the rear panel. I bought a used panel but never used it becaus eof the amount of refab we had to do to my rear panel I was afraid the replacement would fit. If your interested in one let me know> I can send you pics of the one i have. 

Thanks for your reply.  Maybe just leaving the rear exhaust exits empty would be the best solution - definitely the easiest!  If you have any pics of both your side exhausts and especially how the back looks without exhaust pipes I'd appreciate seeing them.  Please send to my personal email account of dick@rsaapi.com.  How hard was it to install the side pipes?  If you wanted to remove the side pipes would it leave any visible scars/scratches/holes, etc?

  not sure if I did this right. you might get idea of how it looks .If I had the choice I would install the filler panels. I just don't have the $$$$to do it right

My 69 Coupe was an original factory side pipe car that had been properly converted to rear exhaust by a previous owner.  I have converted it back to a side exhaust car and the last step is restoring the rear panel. Until I decide how to do this, I applied a temporary solution to how the rear exhaust ports "look" now that the side pipes are in place. I removed the chrome exhaust port bezels and applied some flat black paint on the rear panel on either side of the license plate frame and painted the edges of each port in the panel. It really creates an optical illusion that "hides" the port holes in the panel when you are several feet behind the rear of the Corvette. You have to get pretty close to the car to really notice that the port holes are still there. Here's a couple of pic's of the before & after paint job look....My '69 has a "driver" paint job so I wasn't concerned about affecting "show car" paint and I'll have to paint the rear panel & rear fender pieces anyway when I change the panel to the correct side pipe rear form. Any how...it looked better to me than having the ports really visible...
