Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.

My '69 wasn't downshifting, this morning I looked under the dash and depressed the gas pedal. I found that it's not making contact with the downshift switch. Where it appears is should make contact there's a square area out of the top of the accelerator lever. Is there supposed to be another piece that attaches to the lever or has someone modified my lever for some reason?

Thanks,

Matt

I don't know how different a '69 would be, but the lever should make contact with the switch on the round part of the pedal section BELOW where the cable hooks on. Does the switch have a 'tit' sticking out of the side of it to make contact with the lever? I've seen this part of the switch broken off. If your switch works off the TOP of the lever, above the cable, it's possible that the end is broken off the lever. You might have to replace the pedal assy. if that's the case, or you could weld a piece on the end of it, if you want. (Here's a trick for all of you that can't get the switch to make contact soon enough, or is way out of adjustment. Slip a short piece of 3/8" hose over the 'tit' on the switch, and it will make contact with the lever sooner. Just make sure it does'nt bottom out the switch before the carb is wide open.) Hope this helps.

I found out I have a '68 setup on my '69. WOT it still doesn't quite make contact. I don't think the kickdown probably ever worked on it, my uncle bought it in '71 from the original owner and I don't think it's ever been messed with. There is a small piece of metal that has been welded on the lever to try to fix it. I guess they had problems with the '68 style and that's why they switched for '69. Does anyone know if a '69 style will bolt up to the stock locations?

Thanks,

Matt
