I'm not sure if tachometer questions go in the engine forum or electrical, because I'm not sure how they get their signal. Mine is a little bouncy around 2k, then when I gas the engine enough to get out of OD the tach jumps to 3k. That seems about right, but when I put it to the floor it jumps to around 6k, I know it runs good but, not that good. I would like to smooth my needle out some, or is this just a corvette?

Well, lessee here....might be a bit hard to fix an '83 Corvette tach, but....
an '82 with those symptoms prolly needs the tach filter replaced, or checked to make sure it is connected properly, and grounded properly....
I fixed the year model error in the title of this thread...

I agree. I'd check the tach filter first by bypassing it. Simply unplug the 2 connectors coming from the filter(cylinder attached to the rear of the intake manifold)and plug the tach connector that went to the filter directly into the distributer. If no change, most likely the tach board on the back of the tach.
Easy fix on 78-82s, maybe 45 minutes to replace the $60 board. Comes out from the FRONT of the dash.

That 83 Tachometer Question, sure had me going. They crushed all the 83's but one, which is in the museum as far as what I know. Joel can probably say more about the non 83 model.

OK, I guess I typed '83, but I'm '60 so I'm excused because everything looks fuzzy from here. I'll check out the ground and connections, then the filter.
Thanks, terntes

terntes, I'm sorry if I offended you. I really wasn't trying to do that. I just caught the year and it did make me wonder. Heck you're still a kid. I don't know what day it is half the time. Good luck with the tach. You can purchase two different versions of the filter.......if you need it here are some links to the two versions. Check with Larry at Corvette Specialties.http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=45731&dept_id=1135 and here is the other one http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=46137&dept_id=1135 corvette440hp 2008-08-19 06:55:14

Don't worry about offending me, my wife thinks I'm still a kid, too, or at least childish!
