I have a 73 with a 953 Metallic Yellow and 418 Dark Saddle Combo on the data plate. The thing of it is the interior looks like Medium Saddle. I even purchased Medium Saddle interior paint from MidAmerica to paint some new interior items and it matches. What gives? for 73 was the Dark Saddle more like Medium Saddle that year? Either way I believe this is a fairly rare color combo, right?

It's all good, Tinley.

For 1973, all of the "Saddle" colors changed from what they had been from '70 to '72. '73 "Dark Saddle" (code 39) is supposed to be lighter than '70-'72 "Dark Saddle" (code 38). The "Medium Saddle" (code 42) was only a little lighter than code 39. After thirty years of sunshine, oxidation and wear, your code 39 probably looks like code 42.

Just as a point of Vette trivia, Code 39 ("Dark Saddle" for 1973 ONLY) is almost a dead ringer for the code 31 "Saddle" used in '68 & '69.

Hope this helps.

John

My interior is med saddle with a dark saddle top cover.
I replaced the seat covers with real leather and they have a light greenish tint to them. Pics on my web page.
