Does anyone know where I can get a good center console woodgrain for a 1970? This only came on cars with a deluxe interior. I would like to know from people who actually bought one. I have been trying for weeks now. The one that most places sell is made poorly. It has a lamanant wood that shrinks with heat. So by the end of summer I need another. The other one I got from 2 other companys, including Bair's, is not made correctly. It will not fit. I do not understand why they would even make it. Right now I have one on back order from Corvette Central and they say 4-6 weeks. Thanks.

I just installed a beautifull set of center console, shift console and door trim rosewood from superior wood - just do an internet search on Google for Dash Trim Exotic Wood the cost for all pieces was around $200.00 and boy does it dress up the interior. Only problem I have with it is they forgot the shift console screw holes, so If I ever have to get into the console again I will have to lift it off, come to think of it, using velcro to hold it on would solve that problem neatly. I have a 75 but I am sure they make it for the 70 also.

Hi Larry - I experienced the same problem. I have ordered 5 and only one was the correct size and the quality was poor. I advised Mike at Corvette Central of the problem because they are all imported and the die size is incorrect. The woodgrain strip above the engine data plate is approximately 1/4 inch in width and should only be about 1/8 inch. I finally purchased one from Volunteer Products in Knoxville, TN (865-521-9100). They are a relatively small supplier and Brian looked through all of his stock and hand picked one for me. I used a black permanent marker to cover the exposed metal around the console insert. I am very picky and I must say that it looks good.
In fact, I just ordered another one from Dr. Rebuild and it came today. Guess what? Excellent quality but the wrong size.
I have ordered them from Zip, Corvette Central, Ecklers, Dr. Rebuild, Volunteer Products, and Mid America. I was told that there is only one vendor for the inserts.
Thanks

I hear that wood grain trim pieces are VERY difficult to find. I don't believe that anyone reproduces them to a level of detail that will pass NCRS judging. Your best best is to look for a good condition used original - which is like looking for a needle in a haystack. (It could be worse - you could be looking for a 1100884 alternator).

Larry,
Make sure to let us know if you are able to find the "right" console. I would also be very interested! I heard at one time that Dr. Rebuild has the correct console woodgrain. His website address is http://www.docrebuild.com/dr-r-web/aaa-home.html
