Vette(s): 1979 Corvette (L82)
Earlier this year I purchased my first Corvette, which is a dark blue 1979 L82.  The paint has faded on the outside edge lip of my T-Tops.  I was planning on respraying the lips myself.  It looks almost like the edge was black before, but didn't know if this was an aftermarket respray or whether the outside lip came black from the factory.

I'm hoping someone can provide insight as to whether the t-top edge should be the body color of the car, or black.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated !

My 76 has a chrome strip on the outside lip and I found some pics of 79's with the same chrome lip

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
On my '78 the painted tops have a chrome edge piece on the front and above the windows. The other edges which are about a 1/4 in thick are painted the car color.

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
79 with painted T Tops came with stainless trim blacked out. Same for the anodized window moldings and rocker panel trim. It's a satin black finish.

I actually stripped mine with mineral spirits and 0000 steel wool. Stainless and anodized parts were like new underneath the black paint! Thumbs Up

Good Luck!

Vette(s): 1979 Black, Oyster interior purchased in March 1980
79's came with all trim painted black. Since 1980 I've repainted the trim several times with different types of paint. The trim on the t top was chrome underneath the black paint. I wouldn't advise removing the trim from the top as it is a bear to put back on and keeping in place at the seam. It keeps wanting to pull loose in time. The last paint I tried was a plasti dip paint. It cleans up easy in case of overspray but only lasted about 2 years.
