Vette(s): 1979 C3 L82 corvette
hi, need help again,
Ive just had my corvette down to the spray shop, due back next week,
im looking at the rebuild now and in particular the chrome strips that on my car are ,or have been painted black, i am told that on my year the window surrounds were painted black at the factory.
I have removed this on strip down as i thought that this had been done by a previous owners.
can anyone help me here as to exactly which parts were painted black at the factory.
ie was it just the surrounds at the front , or were the side widow trims and rear window trims painted black also. and the t top chrome?
sorry if this is a bit confusing but im sure one of you will understand what im on about.
the car colour is gm52 yellow with an oyster interior,
thanks, any help appreciated, also pictures if possible .
thanks Brian

The window trim, front and rear, were painted black from the factory on the '79s. Not 100% sure on the t-top trim, but I believe that was also black...but I could be wrong on that. The stainless trim on the windshield header, going back to the rear halo should still be polished stainless, tho.

I just learned this too. On a '78, the rear window trim is stainless steel, and the front one was painted black. In '79, both were painted black.

thanks , yes the t top trim were both painted black on mine, and the window surround front , but i didnt need to take any paint off the chrome underneath the t tops,(sorry not sure what the name of the part is but the chrome piece from the top of the windshield to the back where the t top rests on.
also strange that the rearwindow trim was not painted , but that may have been replaced sometime.

one good point in the black painted trim is that i have some imperfections/damage on one of the windshield chrome sections, with it being painted, i will be able to correct without the need for new parts.
so something good!!!!

On my '81, everything is black except the T-Top support / rest. The black-out looks good when freshly done, but after awhile bugs or debri in the air starts to chip it away and it needs maintanence but it looks worth it to me.

I wuz looking back at some old C&D road tests, and ran across one on the then new '79. In the pics they have of the car, the front trim is black, but the rear was still shiny. I have to assume that they were testing a pilot line, or pre-production car. There was also a smaller pic of a different color car, and it appeared to have black trim front and rear. Weren't any pics good enough to see about the t-top trim(around the edges of the tops).
