I have a 1979 with the L82 and automatic. It has an Edelbrock intake and carburetor with electric choke. I was checking the wiring to the electric choke and there was no power with engine running. The red wire runs from electric choke to this sensor that is located just under and to the drivers side of the distributor. It looks like a temperature sensor with two connections on it. One connection is hot the other (going to electric choke) is not hot. I will try to attach a picture of the sensor.

the real question is should the electric choke be wired to this or to another constant power source?

 Thanks

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.

We'll, I'm no expert on electronics, but the sensor looks like a "Oil Pressure" sensor. In my opinion, NO the choke should not be hooked to it. It should have constant power with the switch in the on position. JMHO! What is the sensor threaded into? Where does the other wire go?

I agree, that looks like the oil pressure sensor.

That is an oil pressure sensor. No doubt about it. It should have voltage on one side with the key ON, and none coming out unless the engine is running....one wire goes back to the oil pressure gauge/light...it certainly should NOT be going to the electric choke!  Your choke should have fused voltage, typically from a spare "ACC" terminal in the fuse box. The real question is...does your oil pressure gauge work?!

Thanks for the replies, it is an oil pressure sensor. I am still tracking down where the other wire goes. My oil pressure gauge does work.

I ended up wiring the electric choke to a fused, 12v and it works like it should now.

thanks

If you don't have an oil pressure sensor located at the back of the engine then this is most likely, an oil pressure sensor.
