Does any one know if you should be able to move your wiper arms by hand across the windshield when they are turned of and door open. My second new motor will move wipers about 2 inches and stop motor feels hot. Seems like its binding up.

I don't know specifically about a '71, but generally the wipers are geared way down, so it is very hard to move them by hand.

I 2nd this. They really should have almost no play in them, and you really shouldn't be able to move them across the windshield by hand.

😯 Wait....does the motor continue to run once the wipers stop moving, but you can move the wiper arms by hand? That sounds like you have something stripped. It would have to be the lever that attaches to the wiper motor if so. Now I'm curious....
