Just finishing up a replacement of the heater control of my '69. Under the console plate below teh cig lighter I have acouple of wires, one orange with a black plastic connectro and a double balck wire with a brass exposed connector. There is a lug on the front edge of the plate that may be a ground point (black wires?). there is no lug on the bottom of the lighter and I don't know if the lighter worked. Any ideas for a location of these wires??? |headscratch|

THE BLACKS SHOULD BE GROUND, THE EXPOSED CONNECTOR IS ALSO AN INDICATOR THAT IT'S A GROUND. i HAVE AN ORANGE WITH A DOUBLE BLACK STRIPE THAT'S FOR MY POWER WINDOWS. THERE'S A RELAY FORWARD OF THE CONSOLE FOR THE WINDOWS. IF IT'S TOO SHORT FOR THAT, IT MAY WELL BE FOR THE CIG LIGHTER. I'M SORY FOR BEING VAGUE, MY ASSEMBLY MANUAL IS IN THE SHOP. ORANGE IS TYPICALLY A "SWITCHED HOT" IF IT REACHES THE LIGHTER AND ISN'T WAY TOO LONG, YOU MAY HAVE FOUND THE LEAD FOR IT.

Thanks for the info. I figured the black for ground. I don't have the connector on the end of the orange wire. Lighter probably went bad along time ago. Being a reformed smoker...No Big Deal. Who smokes in a classic anyway.

its also normal to have the power window wires even if your car isnt so equipped...

the lighter is a very valuable tool though..

you check it before you buy the car.. if it works the car is good.. if not your going to have your hands full...

my car is a lighter delete. dont know what that means.. but since its been a handful im guessing the latter..

this is an old mechanics superstition passed down from my grandfather and father...

Just looked at my AIM. Orange wire is definitely for Cig Lighter. It should have a bullet style female terminal on it to fit on the male on on the end of the lighter assy. The black one should fit a spade terminal on the side of the assy. |hammer| |cheers|
