Hi,
I'm trying to find the owner of a split window Corvette to talk to near Cincinnati.
I'm hoping to find someone willing to let my dad drive one around the block for his birthday with them it as well. I know it's not likely but you never know unless you ask.
A little back story...
My dad's best friend had a 1967 Hemi Charger growing up. When he passed away he left it to my dad and the restoration journey began. It was broken down, a rotisserie was built, body work, part sourcing and that is where our journey stopped. Unfortunately, like many times things happen and we couldn't continue.
I was half joking with my wife and said wouldn't it be something if I could find someone with a Charger that would let him drive it for his 75th birthday. Her response...nobody with that car is going to let you touch it. I told her I know, but you never know unless you ask.
I reached out to every Mopar club I could find with no replies. Then I came across a Charger forum online. I posted what I was looking for with little expectation of even a response at that point.
The next day...I got a message from someone that gave me a name and said they may be able help. I went to the forum to find some contact info and they had already seen my story and messaged me to give them a call.
Turns out he collected Daytona Chargers and Superbirds and was willing to help make my crazy idea come true. So we took a road trip to look at parts for another project as far as my dad knew not knowing what my true motive was. We spent the day talking cars and finished up with a drive down the street in a 1969 Hemi orange Daytona Charger untouched survivor. I heard stories growing up but never had a chance to see it in it's prime or even hear it run before we stopped working on it. Sitting in the back seat down the road even today is still difficult to explain when people ask.
By the time we got home that night he was speechless. He told me he wasn't sure what to say but that was the best birthday present ever with a tear.
A few months ago while working on our project I asked what are the 3 cars you would have if you could aside from the charger. One of the 3 is why I'm writing this story.
If there is anyone in your club, another club you know or someone you think might have any thoughts could you please pass this message along.
If you've made it this far thanks looking at one of the best days for both of us.
Shawn
