Louis, you have never been to northeast Ohio. That is not all that bad. Perhaps one of these days I'll send you pictures of rust. They will amaze you.

If you ever come to N.E. Ohio and see what we have, you will likely fall over and die from the shock.

What Ben had is common. I have seen cars you can change the window regulator without opening the door. The outer skin was over 1/2 gone. My old Comet would not hold a bowling ball in the trunk, the 1/4 would flex outward and anything would fall out the rusted away 1/4 panel. The rear bumpers often rust and fall off. Seats will drop through the floor and hit the ground. Strut mounts give way and the wheels go crooked, or the springs come up through the hood or into the trunk. Rocker panels disappear. The old 70s Honda Accords would break in half, right at the windsheild. The roof would stay, but the bottom would split and hit the ground. Many others did similar things.

It's better than it used to be due to improved auto construction and anti rust efforts of the mfgs. But it's still bad. In the next couple of hours I need to get under my 92 Caravan and replace the rusted away leaking fuel line.

Many years ago the National Safety and Traffic Admin. did a study of rusty cars county by county across the U.S. The worst place for rusty cars is Summit Co. Ohio. Where I call home.
