Misbehaving

The weather report was good, the day was dry.  Saturday morning.  I had to go to the college and get some class prep work done.  I made the decision to drive the Vette.  Good choice.

It felt good and I was pleased.  At this point I could use the relaxation.   Most of the way down I-77 I was in the center of three lanes.  I was cruising about 60 in a 65 zone. A red, early 90's Camaro Z-28 came up beside me.  The label said Tuned Port.  He slowed down and took a good look at my paintless C3.  We both smiled and waved.  After a short bit he nailed the gas.  I don't street race, well not for the last 25 years at least.  But I did romp down on the gas for a brief moment.  That was all it took.  I pulled ahead of the Z-28 and then backed off the gas fairly quickly.  Back down to 65.

He pulled back along side and gave my a thumbs up.  I did the same.  More smiles.  We cruised along side each other for a minute.

Then he opended the Z-28 full tilt.  When his back bumper reached my front end, I performed a small indescretion.  I should not, and I know better.  I will tell anyone not to do so.  Public highways are no place for this behavior.  I let it rip. 

In no short order I caught the Z-28, and kept it hammered.  It took very little to clear 100.  At this point the Z was about 4 car lengths behind, instead of one in front.  This was not creeping ahead.  I whupped him.  I backed off and slowed back down to 65.  He pulled along side and matched my speed.   More big grins.  More thumbs up.

We went down the highway and both got off at the same exit.  He pulled into a gas station to go inside and get something.  I went the very short distance to the college to get my work done.   Saturday it's fairly quiet.  There is only one class taking place, a GM ASEP course.  There is very limited faculty and staff.  I got to work.   About 10 am I went out to the student lounge area, got a Diet Coke, and glanced out the window.   There was the Z-28.  He was one of the ASEP students.  Oops.

First time ever running my Vette against some one and he turns out to be a student at the college.  I guess the good thing is I whupped him.  Embarassing enough to show an instructors indescretion, but it would be a lot worse if I lost.   But I whupped him.

I went out to the car and checked his VIN.  It was a 91 Camaro Z-28 5.0 (305) tuned port.  I guess I would feel even better if it was a 5.7, but that's okay.

I highly recommend against this type of behavior.  But I want to tell you it was a great stress reliever, and it was the biggest smile I have had on my face from when Debbie got ill.  Ahh, it was a good day.  The engine work I have done worked well.

Did I metion I whupped him?
