KEYS

Does anyone know what original keys were used for the 1982 Collector's edition?  I bought my vette in Jan 06 and ordered a replacement set, incase I did the unthinkable and broke one.

I didn't know there was a difference. My best advice would be visit a locksmith and check his key selection. You can buy through Corvette Central or other suppliers vinyl GM covers for the keys to cover the key manufacturer's name.

The Chevrolet lock system of the 70's and 80's used the A - K keyway.  The Alpha character denotes the type of grooves to mate the key to the lock.  Your J Square (ignition) and K Round (door/trunk/alarm) are correct GM keyway types. 

I put myself thru school as a locksmith.  I don't have the code-books to tell you what keyway goes to what year, but a good locksmith (not the key cutter at Ace Hardware) could tell you this and it should be for free.  The codebooks are a ciphering tool for the original key code stamped on the knock-out piece that forms the slot you traditionally use as for the keyring loop to go thru.

Mine is not a CE, and I don't think the keys are the originals , but for the record, the square one is an A and the round one is a K.
They both say "For GM cars. Curtis.
