I just heard that they are considering charging visitors a fee to take a tour of the Corvette plant! Word is that it will cost $5.

Personally, I'm disgusted! I would not want to have to pay for that tour!

What are your thoughts? Would you pay anything? What is the max you'd be willing to pay?

Perhaps if enough of us voice our opinion, the plans will change.

Thanks!

Bowling Green charging for a tour is right up there with charging your children for a hug.

They are a for-profit organization, they are trying to sell a product. They should be honored that people make their facility a destination for vacations or other times off just to visit them.

If things are getting so tough that they even have to consider charging for a mere tour, you can bet the thinking caps are on to find a way to cheapen other things as well. Safety is a must as it is regulated.....Quality, fit, finish, service and satisfaction are at their mercy.

Not that big of deal to me - the $5.00 charge. How many times a year do you do the plant tour? I suspect this is more of a principle thing with you than the money - right.

How many other Corvette or car museums charge a fee ... just to enter their facility? Most all that I know of. It keeps the dweebs out, as well as those who just don't give a darn (Honey, let's drag the kids with us ... it's cheaper than getting a sitter!). I would glady pay the $5 ... not sure of how high I'd go - depends on the content.

Steve:
Go back to Adam's post and read the question again. There is a world of difference between a "Plant Tour" Adam's post referred to and a "Museum Tour" you somehow interperted.
Also...What is your definition of a "dweeb". Please enlighten me, so I will know one if I see one. And, what would you suggest to the owners of these "museums" as the way to keep them out if they show up for a tour?

I read the thread, and understood the thread. If anything, you emphasized my point. Paying $20 for an un-guided tour in a museum ... vs. $5 for a Plant Tour? I'd rather have it the opposite way around. Museums are everywhere ... but there's only one Corvette plant.

Dweeb? As an example ... a moron that has to touch a car when the sign says PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH. "Know what I mean Vern?"

I wouldn't have a problem paying $5 for the tour. I take the tour at least two sometimes three times a year. Every time I go I see something I haven't seen before.

I wouldn't mind for paying for a tour. But if I have to pay for a tour, then I expect it to be .....don't know the wright translation at the moment.
The tour we had last year was great! If they are still free this year we probably make one. If we have to pay for it, we probably wouldn't, cause we already have seen it. Next time we would go to the plant would be when the C6 is in production. To see |eek| the real differences.

I think that some plant manager/department head is probably trying to figure out a way to offset a cost he/she has in putting on the tours, but not at the expense of the fans. GM needs to pony up the dollars to caver the cost to ensure that this bit of American history is available for the public to see.

I have also toured the BMW plant in Greenville, SC and they do not charge fot the plant tour-just for the museum tour. Is GM really going let BMW one up them on their home turf?
