Mid America Motorworks main entrance and gas station after tornado
BREAKING! Before 10:00pm local time on June 17, 2026 in Effingham, IL a tornado roared through passing over the ground of Mid America Motorworks, founded in 1974, is a legendary Corvette aftermarket parts and accessories supply. We are just starting to hear about the details and see pictures and video. Here is what we know so far:
The company's official facebook statement at 10:05pm:
Our buildings have sustained catastrophic damage after being in the direct path of a tornado this evening. Thankfully, all team members are safe and no injuries were reported. We’ll share more updates as we work through the recovery process. Thank you.
Founder Mike Yager said the following at 1:38am:
Laurie and I just got news our property at Mid America Motorworks was totally lost to a tornado. Unfortunately we are in Italy and have no direct access to photos at this point. Our understanding is that the MYGarage Museum and cars, corporate building and inventory, 1910 vintage gas station, all exterior signs, all support buildings etc are totally destroyed. In other words, our entire 52 years in business is gone. Most of all of our personal family history that was stored at Mid America Motorworks , from Michael and Blake’s childhood, artwork is gone as well. We owned an original copy of Illinois Central Railroads original corporate minutes there as well.
A couple hours later, Mike also said:
It is my understanding that the LastC4, the C5 Alpha and Beta Corvettes, CERV4b, 1st NCM C5R box Corvette, 1949 VW cutaway, all collectibles, complete Illinois Central Railroad collection including original handwritten 1851 land grand and original corporate records books were destroyed. At this point, our family is overwhelmed with emotion and just know that our 52 plus years in the Corvette and VW community have been destroyed.
Update from Michael Yager at 9am ET 6/18/2026:

Michael spoke on a video on facebook, while standing in front of a pile of ruble, which he explained was the MY Garage Museum was completely destroyed. He said:
First and foremost our family and our staff are safe, but we pretty much lost everything. Our corporate building, or outbuildings, everything is gone. Our inventory, our computer systems, so.... we know we have Volkswagen Funfest this weekend and other events in the future, obviously those are cancelled. We are just asking that people just don't show up while we're in the cleanup process and navigating everything that's gonna come in the next coming days and weeks. I and we appreciate all the texts, phone calls and emails. Most of them have gone unanswered but not unnoticed. The Volkswagen and Corvette community is super strong so I know they'll have our back when the time is there.
Update from Effingham County Emergency Management Agency 6/18/2026

An impactful tornado travelled an estimated 12-15 miles through the northern parts of Effingham County this evening. While we know there are reports of injuries, so far, there are no reports of serious injuries or fatalities. There was also extensive damage to multiple residences, businesses, and farms. The situation is still unfolding, and we don’t expect to have a full report until after daylight.Read the full briefing on their website
Video and more pics below this brief history about Mid America Motorworks.
Mid America Motorworks has one of those great Corvette origin stories. Mike Yager started the company in 1974 with a small loan and a table full of Corvette manuals, patches, shirts, and accessories that he sold at local shows. It was never meant to be a giant parts empire at first. It was simply a Corvette guy filling a gap in the hobby. Over time, that small operation grew into a major supplier with a huge campus in Effingham, Illinois, complete with a museum (the "MY Garage Museum" that was leveled by the tornado), manufacturing, and a massive retail presence.
By the mid 1990s, the company had become more than a catalog. It had become a gathering point for the Corvette world. In 1994, Yager held a small customer appreciation event that brought in a few hundred Corvettes. That little get together became Corvette Funfest, and it grew into one of the largest Corvette events anywhere. At its peak, Funfest brought in tens of thousands of people and thousands of Corvettes. It became a mix of installs, tech sessions, concerts, celebrity guests, and a general feeling that the entire Corvette community had shown up in one place. I had the privilege of attended a few of them over the years, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of fantastic!
Funfest also attracted some of the biggest names in Corvette history. Designers, engineers, and former Corvette chiefs all made appearances over the years. Yager himself became a major figure in the hobby and eventually served on the board of the National Corvette Museum.

Another highlight in their history was the 2011 C3 Fest. That event was dedicated entirely to the third generation Corvette and brought together owners from all over the country. The then called "C3 Vette Registry" members held their annual Member Gathering there that year! It was a rare moment where the C3 community had its own spotlight, and it showed how much enthusiasm still exists for the generation that carried Corvette through the 1970s and early 1980s. For a lot of C3 owners, that event is still remembered as one of the best gatherings ever held for the generation.

Mike an Laurie Yager speak at the "Gas Station" at Mid America Motorworks during C3 Fest 2011
Today, even as the company evolves, Mid America Motorworks remains a major part of Corvette culture. They did more than sell parts. They created a place where Corvette owners could meet, celebrate the cars they love, and feel like part of something bigger.

It remains to be seen if and how they will be able to carry on after this horrific tragedy.
We will update this thread with more information as it is received.

I just ordered some trim pieces from them not too long ago. This is heart-breaking about the special items that were destroyed by the tornado, but at least there was no loss of life. Hopefully they can rebuild and recover. Damn Tornadoes! 😬

This is terrible news. This type of catastrophe is devastating. I can't imagine the depth of Mike and his families despair about all the collection and memories lost.
When I went about the planning and activity of restoring our 78' SA, I spent countless hours on the MidAmerica website searching and purchasing all the parts and pieces for the entire suspension rebuild and interior restoration along with a smattering of under-hood items and exterior trim along with assembly manuals and anything else that tickled my restore & C3 obsession. My wife would sometimes scold me (kiddingly) by saying things like "Are you going to sleep in that chair tonight?". To this day, if I'm looking for a special item, I usually check MidAmerica 1st.
I'm sincerely glad that the family and all were safe and no one was hurt or died from the tornado. I really hope that Mike will be able to get the business back up & running. This loss is definitely a major blow to our hobby.
