Just be thankful you own a C3 and not a computer operated C6.  A friend of mine woke up one morning to find his new '09 C6 with only 7,000 miles on it looking like this:

The fire was caused by the computer.  Good thing he wasn't parked in the garage.phew

Rare, but it happens.   Of course older cars can do this as well, not from the computer, but other things.

Talk about a burnt offering to the corvette gods.

Corvettes and women are the same...You want to make love to them but they keep breaking down.

That's my fear with 30+ yr old car wiring - that's terrible. I wonder how the GM warranty works on that? What a mess.

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
Just another reason why a $20.00 battery disconnect switch is a good idea in our older cars.

Vette(s): 74 coupe 4 speed 350, 54K actual miles, all original; paint, interior, engine, split bumper. #'s match. 2nd owner, no stress cracks.
Sorry to see that.  Thats interesting tho.  I am kinda looking for a newer model vette.  Do you think a $20 battery disconnect would have prevented this and could have been used on your friends C6.  Probably not if I was to guess.
