From today's San Francisco Chronicle web site:
Police say man drove 120 mph on Bay Bridge
Alleged drunken driver in Corvette rear-ends another car

(06-09) 12:34 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- A man driving a Corvette at speeds of up to 120 mph on the Bay Bridge was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving today after he rear-ended a car, severely injuring the driver, authorities said.
Hassan Clarkson, 24, of Oakland was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI after the 5:24 a.m. collision east of the Fremont Street exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Clarkson was westbound on the Bay Bridge in a red 1999 Chevrolet Corvette that topped 100 mph, said CHP Officer Shawn Chase. He lost control, hitting a concrete wall, a 1993 Geo Metro traveling 50 mph and a 2000 Ford Expedition, Chase said.
The driver of the Geo, Timothy Ostling, 44, of Alameda, suffered brain hemorrhaging and a cut on his forehead. Paramedics took him to San Francisco General Hospital, authorities said. Clarkson complained of pain to his chest, arm and abdomen; he also was hospitalized, Chase said.
A passenger in the Corvette, Isaac Singleton, 28, of San Francisco, wasn't hurt, nor was Clinnis Dently, 43, of Hayward, the driver of the Ford, the CHP said.
The crash shut down all westbound lanes on the bridge as emergency workers extricated Ostling from his car, Chase said.

that kind of story sucks no matter what kind of car you are driving. it
only makes it worse being a corvette as it makes it the blame of the
accident. the blame should be on the driver, as this can happen with
any car when you are drunk. if only people would use their heads when
they drink, there would be noone to blame or a car to blame.

I agree. News like this tends to give Corvettes and Corvette drivers a bad rap, when it is really the alcohol.
Drunk drivers should get zero chances.

This stuff gets the "Those cars are too fast and powerful" idiots going. Kinda like SUV's. If someone dies in an accident they have to point out that a big SUV was involved cause they think all us little people should just be driving 4 bangers. How about just holding the driver responsible, Never mind what they are driving.

You said a mouthful brother. we had a life lost a couple of weeks back in the orchards when the male driver of a yellow '98 went off the road at night on a perfectly straight road and hit a walnut tree (drunk). Everyone was asking me if I knew anyone that drove a yellow vette.

A very sad story indeed. I strongly disagree with people who want to make associations that in reality have nothing to do with the incident, and then try to use that to make their own point.
Speed related accidents are another example. If the officer just slightly suspects someone is 1 or 2 mph over, and puts it in the report it becomes a "speed kills" stastics.
What ever happened to personal responsibility?

Corvettes don't kill/mame people...drunks do...
What would be the outrage if the guy had been driving the Metro, instead of the Corvette?
Personal Responsibility???? You gotta be kiddin! That went away when Wally and the Beaver were replaced with Beavis and Butthead...

Joel is right (did I say that?) what the he!! would personal injury lawyers do?!?
We've tried for several years to get Tort Reform here in Oklahoma, but neither the Dem's nor the Rep's ever follow through on their tough talk campaign promises.
In the words of the immortal Mel Brooks, Gentlemen, we've got to protect our phony bologna jobs here!
